Sprite sheet maker

Pack multiple images into a regular PNG sprite sheet.

Input and settings

How to use it

Place multiple images into a regular PNG grid of fixed 256×256 cells. Choose the column count and the tool fits each source proportionally into its cell without labels.

  1. Choose the images to include.
  2. Set the number of columns from 1 to 12.
  3. Build the sheet, verify the ordering and download sprite-sheet.png.

Sixteen frames with four columns produce a 4×4 sheet

With 16 images and 4 columns, the output canvas is 1024 × 1024 px because each grid cell is 256 px square.

The tool does not trim transparent padding inside source images. A source with a large transparent canvas can look smaller than neighboring sprites even though both occupy a 256px cell.

A regular cell size makes coordinate math predictable

Because every slot is 256px square, application code can derive source coordinates from row and column positions instead of storing an irregular packing map.

Images are fitted, not cropped to fill

A wide or tall image is scaled down until the whole source fits inside the square. Remaining space is left unused rather than stretching or cropping the image.

File order determines sprite order

Images are drawn in the order provided by the selected file list, moving left to right and then to the next row. Check the final sheet when frame sequence matters.

Use a contact sheet when humans need filenames

A sprite sheet is optimized for regular coordinates. If the goal is visual selection with filenames under each thumbnail, the contact-sheet tool is a better fit.
