This grayscale conversion rasterizes every page

Each PDF page is rendered to pixels, converted to grayscale, and placed back into a new PDF as a JPEG image. It changes the document structure, not just the color values of existing objects.

Searchable text, vectors, and links are lost

Rasterization turns those objects into pixels. This is the most important trade-off: the result may look right while no longer behaving like the original PDF.

Choose roughly 96, 144, or 200 DPI rendering density

Higher settings preserve more detail but increase processing time and output size. For print use, compare the required quality with the file-size cost.

If you only need black-and-white printing, check printer settings first

Many print dialogs can output in grayscale without rewriting the PDF. That keeps the original searchable text and links intact.
