An 8-color palette means eight common color groups

The tool does not list every exact pixel color. It combines nearby colors first, then returns the eight most frequent groups.

The displayed percentages are based on the selected top color groups, so they should be treated as a practical palette guide rather than a forensic full-image color census.

More palette colors preserve more nuance

Five colors emphasize broad visual themes, while sixteen can retain smaller accents and tonal differences.

Similar shades are grouped before the top colors are chosen

Slightly different shades that look nearly the same are combined so a photograph does not waste the palette on tiny variations of one visual color.

Large images are reduced for faster palette extraction

The tool analyzes a lighter working version of large images to keep processing practical in the browser. Treat the percentages as useful visual estimates rather than exact full-resolution measurements.

Invisible transparent colors are filtered out

Pixels with alpha below 32 are ignored so hidden RGB data in transparent regions is less likely to contaminate the palette.
