How to use it

Calculate how many equal-size items fit in a rectangular display area from available width/height, item dimensions and the gap between items. It is useful for tables, shelves and simple merchandise layouts.

  1. Enter the available width and height in centimeters.
  2. Enter one item’s width and height plus the gap between items.
  3. Select Calculate to see columns, rows and total item count.

90 × 60 cm with 10 × 15 cm items and a 1 cm gap fits 24 items

The width fits 8 columns and the height fits 3 rows, producing 8 × 3 = 24 items in this simple grid model.

Real displays need room for labels, hands, fixtures, packaging variation and safety. Avoid designing to the exact mathematical limit without testing the physical setup.

The gap is between neighboring items

The pitch is item size plus the selected gap. The calculator does not automatically add that same gap as an outer border around the display.

It does not search rotated layouts

Every item uses the dimensions you enter. If rotating products 90° may fit better, swap width and height and compare the second result.

Subtract fixture space before calculating

Table legs, dividers, signage and checkout areas reduce the real usable rectangle. Enter the remaining usable dimensions rather than the full furniture size.

Partial columns and rows do not count

If the width could hold 7.8 items, only 7 complete items fit, so column and row counts are rounded down.

Verify with real products

Soft packages, box bulges and manufacturing tolerance can make a mathematically valid layout too tight. A physical test is the final check.
