How to use this tool

Calculate document size including bleed from final trim dimensions.

  1. Set Trim width (mm), Trim height (mm), Bleed per side (mm).
  2. Use Calculate to process the input.
  3. Compare the result with your source data and return to the input to make corrections.

Input and settings example

Trim size 148 × 210 mm with 3 mm bleed per side → 154 × 216 mm.

Bleed is added to both sides of each dimension.

Bleed is artwork you expect to cut off

If a background must reach the paper edge, the artwork needs to extend beyond the final trim line. This calculator adds the bleed to the finished width and height.

Bleed is not a margin

This is the part that often causes confusion: bleed goes outside the trim, while important text and logos should stay safely inside it. They solve opposite problems.

Before you use a familiar 3 mm value

  • Check the printer’s actual specification.
  • A 3 mm bleed on each side adds 6 mm to the total width and 6 mm to the height.
  • Use the printer’s final template when one is provided.

A4 example

A4 is 210 × 297 mm. With 3 mm bleed on all four sides, the full artwork size becomes 216 × 303 mm.
