Before using the result

Keep the original PDF for important documents and open the downloaded result to verify it before replacing the original.

What to know before using it

A cover page or front matter often should not display “1”. Range, skip rules and starting number let you keep the physical PDF order while changing visible numbering.

Common failure points

  • {n} is the displayed number, {total} the numbered total, and {page} the physical PDF page.
  • Check margins so numbers do not overlap artwork or trim areas.
  • If a printer specifies folio placement, follow that specification.

Practical example

For a 16-page booklet, you can start visible numbering at 1 on physical page 3 while leaving the cover unnumbered.
