Dimensional weight calculator

Calculate dimensional weight with a configurable carrier divisor.

Use tool

Carrier rules vary; enter the current divisor for your service.

How to use it

Calculate dimensional weight from package length, width, height and the divisor specified by a carrier or service. Whether dimensional or actual weight is charged depends on the carrier’s current rules.

  1. Enter the packed external dimensions in centimeters.
  2. Enter the divisor required by the shipping service.
  3. Calculate dimensional weight in kg and compare it with actual weight.
Formula
length cm × width cm × height cm ÷ divisor

40 × 30 × 25 cm with a divisor of 5000 gives 6 kg

40 × 30 × 25 ÷ 5000 = 6, so the dimensional weight is 6 kg.

Divisors, rounding and the rule for comparing actual versus dimensional weight vary by carrier, service and country. Always use the current official shipping terms.

It matters most for light but bulky packages

Cushions, clothing and other low-density shipments may have a dimensional weight that is higher than the scale weight.

Measure according to the carrier’s method

Use packed external dimensions and follow any carrier rules for rounding dimensions or measuring irregular packages.

The divisor is service-specific

Air, international and domestic products can use different divisors even from the same carrier. Do not assume 5000 applies universally.

Dimensional weight is not the final price

Zone, service level, contract rate, actual weight and size limits can also affect the charge. This calculator provides only the dimensional-weight value.

Compare packaging alternatives

Change the dimensions to see how a smaller carton changes dimensional weight before choosing a box.
