The photo is usually fine — the format is the problem
An iPhone photo can be perfectly healthy and still fail on a PC, form or web service because the receiver does not support HEIC/HEIF. Converting a copy to JPG or PNG is often the quickest compatibility fix.
Keep the HEIC original
Conversion makes a more widely accepted file, but it is not the same as preserving the original data. JPG in particular may be re-compressed, so keep the HEIC as the master and use the converted file for sharing.
JPG or PNG?
- For ordinary photos, JPG is usually the practical choice.
- Use PNG when you specifically need a PNG workflow or transparency from the source.
- After conversion, check orientation and color before sending the file.
Typical use
If an upload form rejects an iPhone photo, convert a copy to JPG, confirm it opens correctly, and submit that copy instead of deleting the HEIC original.
