In a STORES inventory CSV, the Variation ID determines which inventory record is changed. Repeating the same ID can make the same target appear more than once in one upload.
This checker reports blank and duplicate IDs with row numbers.
Zero duplicates does not prove every ID belongs to the intended product. Start from a recent inventory CSV exported by STORES and avoid inventing or manually retyping Variation IDs whenever possible.
An ID is a machine key, not display text. Spaces introduced by copy/paste can change matching behavior even when the cell looks normal.
This wave surfaces leading or trailing spaces instead of silently trimming them away.
Treat the result as a preflight check, not a guarantee that the platform will accept the upload. Account state and current admin settings can add conditions that a browser-only checker cannot prove.
Duplicates can come from merged CSVs or parallel edits. Decide which stock change is intended before removing one of the rows.
Simply deduplicating does not guarantee the remaining number is correct.
Choosing overwrite instead of increase/decrease can cause an inventory incident even with perfectly unique IDs.
