How to use it

Generate a Markdown table from tab-separated or comma-separated rows. It works well for moving a small table copied from a spreadsheet into a README, issue or documentation page.

  1. Paste tabular data with the first row as the header.
  2. If tabs are present, the tool uses tabs; otherwise it falls back to commas.
  3. Select Generate and copy the Markdown table.
Input
Tab-separated / comma-separated
First row
Used as header
Column count
Short rows are padded with empty cells

From a spreadsheet selection to Markdown

Paste rows such as Name<Tab>Price, A<Tab>100, B<Tab>200, and the tool adds the Markdown header separator automatically.

Pipe characters inside cells are escaped as \| so they are not mistaken for Markdown column separators.

Tabs take priority when they are present

Spreadsheet clipboard data is commonly tab-separated. Using tabs first also avoids breaking ordinary prose that happens to contain commas.

The first row becomes the header

Markdown tables need a header row followed by a separator row. The generator treats row one as the header and creates the --- separator cells for you.

Uneven rows are padded

The widest row determines the column count. Shorter rows receive empty cells so the resulting Markdown stays aligned instead of losing columns.

It is intentionally not a full CSV parser

Comma mode uses simple splitting. Complex quoted CSV, embedded commas or multiline cells should be cleaned with a CSV-specific tool before conversion.
